If you accept the concept we shared last month, which was that "Networking is more about farming than hunting". it obviously follows that the best results from farming come over time.  According to Dr. Minter, on page 51 of his book, "Truth or Delusion, Busting Networking's biggest myths". " The serious Networker understands that, in order to build a mature,healthy and mutually profitable relationship, he must stay where he is and nurture it and devote a lot of time and effort growing it."  In other words, networking is not passive, it's proactive!
 
 
Dr. Minter references a number of studies that verify this point, while he points to the results of one study that confirms that people who have been members of a networking group for two years or longer, received referrals worth 50 times as much as those who had been members for a year or less. 
 
 
Said another way, ducking into and out of a Network, every year or so, by simply measuring what might fall in one's lap, is ineffective, and wasteful.   
 
 
Dr. Minter goes on to say, on page 52, "Have you heard the old saying, 'Time equals Money'?  This is never truer than when it comes to membership in a networking group.,  The longer you are committed to building the relationships, the greater the results you will experience."
